Why is Sign Language Translation needed?

Many people do not understand why Deaf people need the Bible in sign language. They may think that if one Deaf person can read English, they can also understand the words and meaning of the written Bible.

However, reading a written language and understanding a signed language are two different things. For many Deaf people, sign language is their first or preferred language. A Bible translated into sign language helps them understand God's Word more clearly and deeply,

We are committed to translating God’s Word into Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) so that every Deaf person can understand and experience Scripture in their own language.

Project Summary

Since 2013, the BIM Bible Translation Team (BIMBT) has faithfully worked to translate the Bible into Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM), making God’s Word accessible to the Deaf community across Malaysia.
 

Over the years, several books of the Bible and other Scripture resources have been completed, while more translation projects are underway.

Each translation brings us closer to our vision: that every Deaf person can see, understand and experience the living Word of God in their heart language
